Cheerleading Is A Sport
If you didn't already know alreadyCaldwell College has a Cheerleading Squad. You probably didn't know that, because we are not taken seriously, we are considered to be a joke. We are not even part of athletics, but instead a club. Now most if not everyone knows that Cheerleading is a sport and that it takes a lot of stanima and Gymanstics to participate. How many people on campus can say they can do a roundoff back handspring. Not many. We don't get enough practice time, because we are never set aside gym time. We must resort to practicing in hallways. We practice for three hours two nights a week as a team, and at home in our free time. We learn new choreograpghy everyday. We require upperbody strength in order to lift ourselves and other girls. As far as i'm concerned we are more of a sport than baseball. All they do is run around the bases, hit the ball with bats, and catch and throw a ball. Have you ever had to catch someone after they craddled, or hold someone in the air. We pump up the spirit of fans at games for the girls and boys basketball games, and also provide entertainment. It is ridiculous that we cannot be considered an athletic team.

I agree. Cheerleading is often underestimated. However, I do think that people are gradually coming to see how intense and physical it really is. I have noticed more cheerleading competitions are now televised, and relatively popular.
